

William Frank Hampton, Jr., age 79 passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 31, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frank Hampton, Sr. and Dora Russell Thomas Hampton. He is survived by his daughters, Amy Hampton and Katie Crago (Josh); grandchildren, Hampton, Camden and Peyton Crago and his fur babies, Princess and Mr. Cat.
He was born in Lakeland, Florida and was on the yearbook staff at Lakeland High School. He was a member of the charter class at the University of South Florida where he graduated with an accounting degree. Bill moved to Birmingham in 1966 and began work for U.S. Pipe and Foundry until he retired. Many years before retirement and during retirement, he volunteered at the Alabama Theatre and eventually took on the job as the managing director. While working at the Alabama theatre, he and Linda Whitmire started the tradition of Christmas movies at the Alabama Theatre. He was very proud of all the hard work he put in to save and restore the theatre and the friendships that he made while there.
Bill enjoyed Big Band music and musicals. He was an avid collector of memorabilia, especially Coca Cola, Fiesta ware, magazines vinyl records. He enjoyed going to Walt Disney World and passed on his passion for Disney to his daughters and grandchildren. He was a weather watcher and would tell his family and friends about weather conditions. He was a practical joker and liked to make people laugh. Bill loved spending as much time as he could with his children and grandchildren and tried to attend many of his grandchildren events. His grandchildren called Bill “Tobs.”
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 6. 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Johns-Ridout’s Southside Chapel with a memorial service following at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to
