Born on August 31, 1918 in the Silver Lake section of Belleville, NJ, Kay was the daughter of Bartolomeo and Mary Ursula (Sena) Ficeto. Kay worked as a seamstress sewing childrens coats for the Triangle company. In the 1960s Kay decided to brush up on her typing skills and was hired as a junior clerk for Essex County Welfare, retiring from in 1984. Kay was a loving and caring wife and mother. She was married to the love of her life, Frank, until his passing in 1976. Kay taught her children to be compassionate and independent; she was proud of their achievements.Kay’s family and friends will remember her as a loving and caring person who always had room for one more at the table where she served up the best Italian food, made with love. No Christmas Eve was complete without "Mama Simini's" specially prepared fish and her delicacy, stuffed peppers in red wine.Kay lived in Belleville most of her life until moving in with her son, Frank Jr. and daughter-in law Sue, first in Dover and finally in Bloomsbury. As a devout Catholic Kay was devoted to her church, St Anthony of Padua. She was a catechism teacher, a member of the Sodality, the Senior Citizen group and a life long member of the church choir.Besides her husband, Catherine was predeceased by her infant daughter Lucille in 1945, her great grandson, Ezra, and great granddaughter Leila; Her sisters, Vivian, Margaret and Jean, and her brother, Geraldo. Kay is survived by her brother Bartolomeo (Benny) Ficeto and her children and their spouses Ann Marie (Gary) Borowicz, Camille Dullaghan, Frank, Jr (Suzanne) and Michael (Nancy). They will cherish her memory. Kay will be remembered by her grandchildren, Brendan, Brian and Kim Dullaghan, Christopher Makowski, Frank Simini III, Eliza, Caroline, Jessica, Christina and Matthew Simini; her great grandchildren, Evelyn Dullaghan, Addison and Theo Simini, Madelyn Campbell, Cayeden Makowski, Gabriella Saavedra. Kay was a person who made an impression on everyone she met. Her dry sense of humor occasionally took one by surprise but it was all in a spirit of fun. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 30, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St Anthony of Padua Church, Franklin Street, Belleville, NJ followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield, NJ. Visitation hours are on May 29, 2018 from 4pm to 8 pm at Zarro Funeral Home, 145 Harrison St., Bloomfield, NJ.
