

Lucy (Lucia) Palmieri Knapp, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Sunday, September 7 at Emeritus Assisted Living in Stafford, New Jersey. She was 88.
Lucy was the daughter of her deceased parents, Francesco and Amalia Mauriello. She was pre-deceased by her husband Rocco Palmieri in 1972. She was also married to Irving Knapp who passed away in 2007.
Arrangements are by Zarro Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 10 from 8-11AM. A funeral mass will be held at 11:30AM at St. Lucy’s Church in Newark. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
Born in Newark, NJ, Lucy lived at the Troy Towers in Bloomfield until she moved to Toms River in 2010. Most recently, she took residence at Emeritus. Lucy was a proud graduate of St. Lucy’s Grammar School and Central HS in Newark. She was a professional secretary and worked for many years with the Essex County Welfare Board. Lucy completed her career with the Essex County District Courts working as the personal secretary to a number of Superior Court Judges. She retired in 1992 after a long and fulfilling career. She accomplished this in addition to raising her four children and caring for an ailing husband. She was truly an amazing woman.
Lucy was the loving mother of Rocco Palmieri (Carole), Rosemary Molinaro (Robert), Dominick Palmieri (Valerie) and Frank Palmieri (Maryann). She will be forever missed by her 10 grandchildren and her 11 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to grieve many loving nieces and nephews and her dear life-long friend Lorraine. Lucy was also pre-deceased by her sisters Consiglia Scrofani, Louise Vardaro and Theresa Freda. She was a friend to many and no matter how much you loved her, she loved you more. She loved to play Bingo. A devout Catholic, she believed in the Rosary which she prayed daily. She will be sadly and lovingly missed by all who knew her.
