Agustin has been a very special part of our family.  To Rene, he was the brother-in-law with which he has felt the most comfortable and at home with.  Visiting your home has always been a place to get away from tension and stress and Agustin was a big part of that relief for Rene.  One of Rene's favorite memories of Agustin is of singing along to the top of their voices in the car on their way to the store and then enjoying Agustin's deliscious meals. To our son Rene, Agustin was a special uncle.  When he dreamed of being a cowboy, his tio Agustin was his role model. He enjoyed watching movies with him, eating his good cooking, trips to the store and theatre, hearing his hunting adventure stories, but most of all, seeing his gun collection.  To me, Agustin is special because he reminds me so much of my dad, not surprisingly they're from the same town.  I knew they can be as soft as they are tough.  We saw that in the way his grand kids were drawn to him.  He was a loving, patient, playful grandpa, like no other I've known.  We enjoyed his caring, compassion, helpful, selfless side in many ways.  We learned from his generousity, courage, and ingenuity but he left me the greatest lesson during the last days of his life. About a year and a half ago he said something that really impacted me.  He said," I have a truth, but there is another truth".  The words of Jesus Christ came to mind, "I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me".   After he suffered the stoke I shared with him what I have come to know about God and his truth and was able to express to him how much he meant to our family and to me.  A few months ago, while Sylvia worked on his taxes, they talked for hours and God was one of the subjects.  Sylvia ended the conversation saying, "The bottom line is that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one goes to the Father except through him".  During Agustin's last days he extended forgiveness when he could have had bitterness and resentment, he gave a kiss when in another time pride would have held him back, he spent his last days enjoying happiness and peace.  Life will never be the same without you but I believe with all my heart you found the Truth, you found the Way to our Father's house and we will enjoy your company again if we have the humility you had to admit there is a greater truth than our own and then follow it.

When I was ten years old I desperately wanted a pet bunny. I don't know how, but my tio Agustin found out that I wanted a bunny and the Sunday before I started 5th grade he came over and brought me two bunnies! I was so excited! Me, Poncho, and Marisol played with them all day. It was so much fun. But, at the end of the day, after repeatedly cleaning up all their poop, I changed my mind and gave them back to my tio. He was so confused and didn't understand why I didn't want them, but he started laughing when I told him that they were too much work and too much responsibility for a 5th grader! Even though I gave the bunnies back, I never forgot that he did this for me and I will never forget the happiness he brought me that day. This is just one story out of the many stories I could share about my tio Pitin'. I miss him a lot but I'm so grateful for the wonderful times I spent with him. Family, know that we all share in your sorrow, but more importantly, we rejoice in the hope that we will see him again, a hope that only our Lord Jesus Christ can give!
