aka Alice Irene Lane, Alice Irene Boyles, Alice Irene Shaw, Alice Irene Carroll
It is with profound love and deep gratitude for a long lived life, we announce the peaceful passing of Alice I. Bilbrey on June 27, 2025 at approx. 2:30 AM just 5 weeks shy of her 95th birthday.
A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, she will be missed by all.
Her siblings and older friends knew her as Renee.
A couple of us left knew her as Mom and most everybody else knew her as Nana.
Alice was born to Hugh and Myrtle Lane in Humphrey Arkansas on August 1, 1930.
She was the oldest of Hugh Lane’s second family. Since she was the oldest and her Mother decided to leave, Alice had to drop out of school in the 7th grade to help her Dad with all the younger siblings.
Although she didn’t have a formal education, she was very knowledgeable in many areas. She used to read extensively and loved to write until her mental ability prevented her from writing. When WWll ended in Sept. 1945, Calvin Boyles, came home from the Navy and almost immediately married Alice. She had just turned 15 and Calvin had just turned 18 (he lied about his age with his mother vouching for his age to enlist in the Navy.)
18 months after being married Alice and Calvin had their first child Betavia Arlene, who was named after Alice’s materal grandmother Beatavia Atheline Shaw. Just by coincidence that Alice would many years later marry another Shaw, Richard Robert Shaw.
Fifteen months after Tavie, as everyone called her, was born, along came Calvin Ray Boyles jr.
In late 1949 along came Virginia Gail. By the time Virginia Gail was a year old she contracted spinal meningitis and passed away in late 1950. Virginia Gail’s death prompted Calvin and pregnant Alice to pack the kids and move to California. In April 1951, Gary Edward was born in San Diego.
Several years after the move to California, Calvin and Alice split up and later divorced.
Alice was a proud woman and would not accept charity or welfare and always worked. In June 1958 she bore another child Byron Douglas Bradford later to be adopted by Shaw.
In the late 1950’s Alice met a man at work and together they were at very stabilizing force. But, at age 43 Harold Gene Chrisner had a massive heart attack and died.
In 1962, Alice met Richard Robert Shaw and they married having a son Richard Robert Shaw jr on October 18, 1963.
Alice had a total of 6 children and 4 of them have passed away several with very tragic circumstances.
Her presence was a gift; her memory will be a blessing.
A funeral celebrating her life will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park & Mortuary 11715 Cedar Ave. Bloomington, CA 92316
On Thursday July 24 at 11 AM with services beginning at 11:30 AM and burial immediately following. She purchased her own plot ensuring she would be buried between her sons’ Richard and Byron’s gravesites
