On November 27, 1943 twins were born to the late William Henry Taylor and Gladys Taylor in Tallulah, Louisiana. Jane Verna was born first and then Lee Vern arrived. He later changed his name to Askia Salahud'din as he is now known. In 1944 his mother moved their older sister Audrey and the twins to Los Angeles, California. Askia/Lee's childhood was a happy one; he grew up in a loving home and was taught by his Mom's example and words that the Holy Bible is the true Word of God.
Askia/Lee attended and graduated from Russell Elementary School, Edison Jr. High and Dorsey High School. As a young adult he attended Los Angeles Trade-Technical College where he took courses in Fashion Design. He later went to Barber College, where he trained and received his license to become a barber. Askia was a Master Barber.
He met Zakiyyah, in 1973; They had great adventures together and were married in March 1980.
Askia leaves to mourn his wife Zakiyyah Salahuddin, three son's Dante Taylor, Charles Brown and Anwar Salahuddin, five daughter's Mecca Webb, LaShundra Stevenson, Sahar Salahuddin, Sukari Salahuddin and LaSharon Salahuddin, seventeen Grandchildren and two sister's Audrey Fay Lovelace and Jane Verna Garrett. He was preceded in death by one son, Elijah Salahuddin.
