Charles (Chuck) Stephan Pluma, age 93, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 6, 2021. He was born on October 8, 1927 to Charles and Anna (Pechousek) Pluma in Cleveland, Ohio, and was raised in Cleveland alongside his older sister Margaret (Hruby).
At the age of 18, Chuck joined the Merchant Marines and traveled the world. He was later drafted into the US Army, where he served as a Sergeant in the Korean War. He returned home after having received a “Purple Heart”, among numerous other military honors.
Once he returned home from Korea, he married his sweetheart, Geneva (Dycus), in February of 1952. After Chuck’s honorable discharge from the military, he and Geneva relocated from Ohio to California where they raised 3 children together – Sharon (Gary), Diana and James (Monica). He was blessed with 7 grandchildren (Chris, Gary, Brian, Kim, Jonathan, Maria and Victoria), 6 great-grandchildren (Trinity, Preston, Gavin, Charlotte, Jimmy, and Colt), and 1 great-great-grandchild (Zion).
Chuck worked in the carpentry/construction field for many years as well as acting as maintenance head for both the Varian and Sperry Univac Companies, and the Moreno Valley School District. There was nothing that he couldn’t fix or build, which made him a priceless asset to all his employers as well as those who worked under him.
Charles was a family man and a man of God who patiently taught his children the love of God, and how to live a good Christian life by his own example. He loved spending quality time with each of his children and grandchildren and often took them camping, on road trips or worked on a special projects with them, passing on his carpentry skills as well as his zeal for life and adventure. He loved the United States and wanted to see as much of its awe inspiring beauty as he possibly could.
He loved wood working in his spare time and often turned out priceless family treasures as special gifts around Christmas time, which will be cherished by family members for many, many years to come.
Charles could light up a room when he entered it with his smile, his laugh and his “not so funny Dad jokes”. He was the most loving husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa anyone could have asked for. We are heart-broken over the loss of our family “Rock”, but we find comfort in knowing he is at peace and rejoicing in heaven with many family and friends who have gone before him.
He is survived by this 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
Rest in heavenly peace. You are in our hearts forever and always.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations in Chuck's Memory to the American Heart Association.
