Fue criada en una familia modesta, ayudando a su mamá a atender la Cenaduría. Una de las mejores experiencias que siempre contaba era que se fue a trabajar a Guadalajara desde los 14 años. Allí trabajó con una familia de dinero, cocinaba y hacía los deberes de la casa para ellos.
En Guadalajara conoció a José Herrera, de que fue novia por cinco años antes de casarse el 29 de diciembre de 1963. En 1964 nació su primer hijo, José Alberto. Pero su felicidad fue cortada cuando pasó a mejor vida un año después. Con el transcurso del tiempo fueron bendecidos con 8 hijos más: Armando, Humberto “Robert”, Norma, Martha, Irma, José Jr. “Pepe”, Araceli y Jorge.
Consuelo vino a los Estados Unidos, llegando a Los Ángeles California en 1979, habiéndose arriesgado a cruzar con sus tres hijos menores, José Jr., Araceli y Jorge, para reunirse con su esposo quien había llegado a los Estados Unidos en 1978 en busca de una mejor vida para la familia. En 1979, la familia fue unida cuando todos los hijos llegaron a Los Ángeles, CA.
La familia vivió en una casa de sólo una recámara, pero estaban juntos y eran felices.
En 1979, su hijo Jorge fue testigo de un accidente y por ese impacto quedó mudo. En 1980, la familia se trasladó a vivir en Fontana, CA donde Consuelo trabajó en un hogar de convalecientes. Allí conoció a la hna. Josie Madrigal, y por medio de ella conoció a la Familia Moreno, quienes comenzaron a evangelizarlos e invitarlos a la iglesia apostólica en Colton, CA, con el Pastor Raymond Carrillo. Las oraciones de los miembros de esta iglesia hicieron el milagro de que Jorge volviera a hablar. Asistieron a la misma iglesia hasta que se mudaron a la iglesia apostólica de Fontana con el Pastor Eduardo Pacheco. José y Consuelo fueron bautizados en el nombre de Jesucristo en 1983. En 1984, el pastor Pacheco aceptó el llamado a ser misionero en Chile. En ese tiempo llegó el pastor Samuel Valverde para pastorear la iglesia de Fontana, California. Fue en ese tiempo cuando se adoptó el nombre Iglesia Apostólica
Fuente de Verdad, la cual ha sido la iglesia de Consuelo y José hasta hoy, y el pastor Valverde ha sido su pastor hasta el día de hoy.
Consuelo fue una mujer muy segura de sí misma. Luchó y trabajó mucho a lado de José para lograr sus objetivos, los cuales fueron dar a sus hijos una vida modesta y hacerlos personas de respeto. Después de unos años de comprar y vender llantas, juntos fundaron su propio negocio con mucho esfuerzo y trabajo, J & G TIRE SHOP se abrió en 1991, donde ella trabajó hasta sus últimos días.
Ella siempre estuvo presente en nuestras vidas, siempre quiso lo mejor para su esposo y sus hijos, ella siempre ayudaba a todos. A todos les gustaba su pozole y a ella le encantaba su jardín de rosas.
La salud de Consuelo comenzó a empeorar el 14 de diciembre del 2021, después de una cirugía del corazón. Consuelo sufrió mucho después de ese día y pasó a mejor vida el 23 de junio del 2022.
Consuelo ya está descansando en los brazos del Señor. Su fuerza siempre fue primero Dios y su familia, a quienes quiso mucho.
Fue precedida en muerte por su hijo, José Alberto Herrera, y su hija, Irma Herrera García.
Le sobreviven su esposo de 58 años, José Herrera, siete hijos, Armando (y Jackie) Herrera, Humberto Herrera, Norma (y Jesús “Chava”) Madrigal, Martha (y Armando) Carrillo, José Jr. “Pepe” (y Claudia) Herrera, Araceli Herrera, y Jorge Herrera; así como diecinueve (19) nietos y veintidós (22) bisnietos.
Y aunque ella ya no está viva en cuerpo, ella está aquí en espíritu; sus memorias y su legado vivirán en sus hijos, familia, y amigos por siempre.
