Daphne McAfee of Upland, California passed away peacefully on February 3, 2018. She was born in London, England, on December 30, 1924, and enjoyed a long and wonderful life. In 1947, she immigrated to the United States to marry Donald McAfee, a handsome Air Force pilot she met during WWII.
In 1951, the McAfee’s moved to San Bernardino County, and resided in Rialto for many years. Daphne helped operate the family business, Dons Bicycles of Rialto for 59 years, a venture which later added Dons Bicycles of Redlands.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald McAfee. Her California family include daughter Janet McAfee, sons Wayne McAfee (Lisa) and Scott McAfee (Maria), grandsons Nicolas McAfee (Hannah), Aaron McAfee, Matthew McAfee and granddaughters Carmen McAfee and Julia McAfee.
A devout Christian, Daphne attended the Congregational and Presbyterian churches in Rialto. More recently, she attended the First Presbyterian Church of Upland.
Known by family as “The Queen Mum” Daphne will be remembered for her welcoming spirit, her love of family, her British wit, and her love of company. It was always “tea time” at Daphne’s. Daphne enjoyed trips to England and New Zealand to visit relatives. She loved dogs, celebrating Christmas, reading romance novels, and watching Turner Classic movies. Her favorite role was being a grandmother, and she happily moved from Rialto to Upland to be the favorite babysitter for her grandchildren.
