Mrs. Evelyn Versell Washington, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.L McClellan was born and raised in Dekalb Bowie, Texas. The family relocated to Terrell, Texas where she attended Burnett High School until her family moved to California. She then graduated from Fontana High School.
She attended college where at that time she decided to work on her nursing degree and joined a program to complete her license. Upon obtaining her nursing degree and working several jobs she accepted a position at Kaiser Foundation Hospital where she was known as ‘George’ and completed 35 years before retiring in 2003.
She met and married Mr. Morris Washington III who proceeded her in death in 2013. To this union 5 children were born. Versell, as most called her, died of natural causes at her home November 12th.
Versell was loved by her family as well as those she met, in addition all the kids even those outsides of family called her ‘Grandma’ and she will be missed here on earth but welcomed with open arms in heaven where she will join her family.
Versell grew up in a strong family that welcomed everyone and help anyone that needed it with no question asked or expecting of something in returned. She enjoyed sports including basketball and softball where she played and coached. She took care of her family and loved her grandkids as they were what kept her going and were her pride and joy.
She is the last living descendent of SL and Evia McClellan. Proceeding her in death were her parents (Sebastian and Evia), brothers (Sebastian (SM), Alonzo (Boots), Robert (Baby -son), Ocia (Londell), Darnell (Buck), Harold, Theopheleus Clay (TC), and Idolhpus, sisters Leo Evelyn (Mutt), AD, Ocleta (Skeet), Doretha (Dot).
Her survivors include daughters Althea, Ardalia, Gina, Sonya, one son Keith, and son-in-law Dane. Grandchildren Jeremy, William (Eliza), Ian (Tina), Sean (Jessi), Westley (Sinai), Darrick, Matthew, Anthony, Briana, Collin, great grandchildren, Jalani, Dominyk, Tiana, Braydin, Julie, Tania, Sadi, Zeke, Kashton and Kalana and a host of niece, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
“As we let Versell rest, let us remember that this is not goodbye—it is only ‘see you later.’ For we believe she has been welcomed into God’s eternal embrace, reunited with her loved ones, and surrounded by peace. May her life remind us to walk in love, serve with compassion, and trust that one day we will meet again in that place where there is no sorrow, only joy everlasting.”
