Isaac Larry Gil, age 56, a longtime resident of Riverside, CA, passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2024, in Corona, CA. Isaac was born on April 18, 1968, in Riverside, CA, the first of three children to Larry and Jenny (Luna) Gil.
Isaac attended St. Francis de Sales Grade School and played football for a local team in Jurupa, where he developed a deep appreciation for hard work and dedication. During his middle school years, he played baseball for Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine's church team. Isaac began high school at Poly High School before transferring to Rubidoux High School, where he graduated in 1986.
Over the years, Isaac worked locally in various roles and confronted personal challenges with addiction. With the unwavering love of his family, he rediscovered his strong work ethic, Catholic faith, and deep family values. In March 2012, Isaac moved to Spokane, WA, to live with his sister, Stephanie, and her husband, Guy. After nearly three years in Spokane, he returned to California and began working at Walmart's refrigerated distribution center. Isaac took great pride in his work there, but recent health struggles had limited his ability to continue. He remained hopeful about returning to the job he loved.
Isaac had a passion for sports, proudly supporting the University of Southern California Trojans, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Los Angeles Rams, often wearing their colors with pride. Isaac’s taste in music tended to the harder side of rock and his movie preferences included a heavy element of scare. He was a gifted young artist and enjoyed expressing himself through his drawings. Isaac was a man of great physical stature with a gruff and tough exterior. This exterior held a kind and compassionate heart that would fight for the underdog and give selflessly to others whom life had offered a challenge. He loved to share time at family events and could be expected to spook, poke-fun-at, or share his thoughts without a filter. He knew what was right and fought daily for those values from within.
Isaac was preceded in death by his sister, Genevieve (Gil) Danekas, and his grandparents. He is survived by his son, Joseph Perea; grandson, Adam Perea of Victorville, CA; parents, Larry and Jenny Gil of Riverside, CA; sister, Stephanie Montgomery and her husband, Guy, of Spokane, WA; two nieces, Victoria Montgomery and Emily Danekas; his nephew, Raymond Danekas; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Riverside, CA, beginning with a Rosary at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will take place at Green Acres Memorial Park in Bloomington, CA.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, causes that were close to Isaac's heart.
Green Acres Memorial Park & Mortuary is entrusted with the arrangements.
