Well grandpa it's been three years and I still miss you as much today as the first day God called you home !  I can't recall a day that has passed that you haven't crossed my mind in some way or another but every thought of you still makes me smile afterwards, you will always be such an inspiration to me in my life as well as the life I live ,I miss you and grandma both and until the day I see you both again just remember that I love you

Its been one year today and I remember your laugh and your smile like it were yesterday, I just wanted you to know that Today I graduated my drug court class after 19 months and I'm so thankful for all the wonderful ,inspiring talks that we had because you always wanted me to be the best person that I could be and today I'm doing all that I can to do that not only for myself but for you and everyone who loves me!!! I MISS AND LOVE YOU GRANDPA YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN

Thank you Poppa for all the memories,  fun and  laughter.  Thank you for always having your door open for anyone that needed shelter.  For always having food on the table for anyone that was hungry.  A warm blanket and a place to lay your head down for those that were cold and tired.  For being the biggest cheerleader for those playing sports, doing well in school, new job etc. For a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen. For all the holiday joy. Thank you for the family values and traditions. You and Mom are so missed. We thank you forever and love you always.

Better known as Pop.. my Great Grandfather..you have touched so many hearts. You have taught us all the TRUE meaning of Family. I'll never forget all those Sunday BBQ's at the house. As many know the last few months have been hard for me. First was losing my beautiful baby boy which i am SO insanely jealous that you are now with him and holding him with our beloved grandmother Charlotte..after the loss of my son i have felt a huge cloud over my heart. And only two months later the passing of you added on.. You will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. My son has your middle name..Alexander Robert..and I think it was a wonderful choice. You were the definition of what it meant to be a "Whalen Boy".  Strong, hard headed, someone who loves, charishes and protects the family at all costs. And I am so honored to have been given that Legendary name and title. Thank you for every birthday sizzler card, every talk we shared whether you were on your chair or in your hospital bed, I'll never forget those long nights of being in the hospital with my dad, poppa and Chrissy joking about how cute the nurses were (while Grandma Whalen was probably wanting to beat us all in the head beacuse of it) Thank you for everything. I love you dearly Pop. Untill we meet again..give grandma and my baby boy a hug and kiss for me. I love you pop❤ RIP

Pops, you're everything a man should be good husband, good father, and a great man you did your job. Now it's time to join your soulmate and be whole again rest in peace. Love you. 

A man, a husband, a role model and most importantly an amazing father, grandfather and great grandfather. I want to thank you for being such an important part of my life. I know I wasn't the perfect son, not even close but I did, I do and I always will love you. I hope you are finally happy being joined back with Mom. Well known by so many and loved by all!  Pops was the "Original Nice Guy!  Did not matter where or when you ran into Pops he greeted you with the biggest hug and warmest smile ever!  He made sure you knew he cared about you!  The energy and laughs he brought to the "Rebels" team was something we will never forget!
What a sweet, beautiful man this world has lost and he will  be missed by all of those who were lucky enough to know him. May Pops  now rest in the arms of his heavenly Angel.

No mortal wound was struck. There are no victims to console, nor villains to pursue. It was just your turn. Lessons learned through recognition of mortality are often overlooked. Not this time. Gramps, you beautiful man, you've taught us how to stand on our own two feet. Where you found stagnancy before, you find fire now. Your stories will survive you for another generation or two, but your legacy is found in many other places. In all the work you did at the Post Office, in all the hearts of the young men and women you've touched, and more importantly in the image you leave behind in all our minds. Gramps, you're a paragon of kindness. You're the picture of happiness. You're the best dad any of us could have ever hoped for. I'll always be grateful for the "lost track of the time, but we got you a plate" nights. I can't wait for you to be at my wedding, and am even more excited you'll be getting front row seats to all my kids' events. I've heard up there you don't miss anything. (I'm sure Grandma is already giving you evidence of that, we both knew you didn't mean anything you said to those waitresses but I don't think she did!)
     Anyways, I'll always look to your memory when I make decisions. I hope you like the picture I chose, as I think it illustrates our relationship beautifully!

Pretty sure I’ve never met a more kind and caring person than “Pops”.
I know for me it was years before I even new his real name because that’s all everyone called him, whether related or not🙂! He definitely gave my grandma Burton a run for her money as far as being my biggest fan/supporter whenever I was out playing golf on the LPGA tour.  I will miss that giant smile he always had when I saw him. Pops you are truly missed by all and I’ll try to send as many birdies your way as I can! RIP ❤️❤️Brandie

We are so sorry for your loss, Pops was one of a kind.  He had an amazing sense of humor and loved his gambling.   It was an honor to know him and spend a few brief moments with him,  I know he is now with the love of his life and Charlotte has been waiting for him.  God Bless you all, he will surely be missed.....

What can I say about the most generous and wonderful man we all called "POP" he was Pop to who ever knew him.. always had a smile and kind word to all... Oh sometimes he would would try to talk angry and behind his back we would just giggle cause we knew he wouldn't carry thru... such a big hearted man would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it .. Pop I'm happy that you are no longer in pain and with Charlotte. Hell she's probably trying to send you back already 😂.. Just remember we will always Love and Miss you...

Pop , there are no words that can express the love I have for you. your personality your strength your ability to make every situation better made me the person I am proud to be today.  Although you have moved to a better place I will always wish you were here to continue to guide me. You will be missed!!!

We have lost a very dear and long time friend. We have soooo many fun memories of the good times we shared with John and Charlotte for almost 50 years.  Give Charlotte a big hug from us.  Our families will be forever connected.

I was so young when I was around my great-uncle, Uncle John, but what I remember was he laughed. A lot. He was always cutting up with everyone. Loved his smile and witty sense of humor! Sharing a photo I took of the last time I saw Uncle John in 1997, which includes Aunt Charolette and my beloved grandparents. Sending love and prayers of comfort to his children and grandchildren.

You've touched so many lives. You've been the strong, steady foundation people built their lives from. Including me. You will be missed, but never forgotten. See you next time, Papa. 

My Uncle John was one of the sweetest and most caring men I’ve known.  I don’t have any memories that I can recollect of him ever being angry, judgmental, or unkind.  In fact, whenever I think of John, I can only see his smiling face.

I loved spending Christmas Eve over at my grandparent’s home, knowing that the Whalens would be coming over to join the large gathering of extended family members.  Uncle John would be the one telling jokes and sharing funny anecdotes, occasionally embarrassing a family member or two, but never malicious and only in a loving way.

John loved children and it was always evident that his kids and grandkids came first in his life.  He was a joy to be around and will be truly missed.

To the Whalen family:  My deepest condolences are with you all right now.  John R. Whalen was truly a wonderful man.  Along with his wife, Charlotte, the rescued me from the streets.  They took me in and gave me a home and family.  They were always there for me.  I remember the day the Court gave them guardianship over me.  For many reasons, I was disappointed that day.  But then, they stood up and said they wanted me.   Immediately, I felt cared for.  They took me in and made me a part of their already large family.  (At that point, I was one of eight children in the house. ) I remember the day he walked me down the aisle.  He was more nervous than me that day, but he still exuded a serenity that meant everything was gonna be okay.  I thank God for John and Charlotte Whalen for saving my life that day.  (And Johnny too.  He knows why.)  Because of them, I ended up with a much better life than the life I was headed towards.  Please know that John Whalen was loved and cared for just as if he was my own father.    I will never forget him.  Or any of you for that matter.
