July 7, 1940 – October 23, 2025
Judy Avila Cuen, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all, passed away peacefully at her home on October 23, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was 85 years old.
Judy was born and raised in Riverside, California, and graduated from Poly High School. Everyone who met Judy loved her—she was kindhearted, thoughtful, and always concerned about others. She had a generous spirit and a gift for making everyone feel cared for. Judy was a devoted woman of faith who loved serving the Lord and her church community. One of the greatest joys in her life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; even through her illness, she found happiness in seeing them and talking about them.
Judy worked for Fedco for several years and later at Target. Through her hard work and determination, she went on to earn both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees—an incredible accomplishment she achieved at the age of 60. Following that milestone, she dedicated her career to serving others as a drug and alcohol counselor, inspiring and encouraging countless individuals on their path to recovery. Her compassion, strength, and commitment to helping others find a life of sobriety touched many lives.
She is survived by her son, William Gomez of San Bernardino, and her daughter, Helen (Brent) Junker of Highland; grandchildren Christopher (Kacie) Junker, Jaclyn (Daniel) Westrick, Nicholas (Ashton) Junker, Alexander Gomez Jr., and Tony Gomez; her sisters Rachel Perez, Priscilla (David) Mercado, and Nick (Sophie) Concha; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her son, Alexander Gomez Sr., and her parents, Joaquin Avila and Amelia Concha.
Services for Judy will be held at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery on November 12, 2025.
