Leslie was born on October 1, 1942, the third child to Edgar and Iris Clardy in Sapulpa, Ok. Leslie graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, in 1960. He joined the United States Navy after high school and served his country for 20 years and earned the rank of Petty Officer First Class.
Leslie settled in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where he met and married Jean Ricks. There were no children from this union.
Leslie was an avid Bingo player, he loved the game, playing multiple times per week with his best friend Ann Brown. He was a very sociable person, who always treated people with love and respect.
Leslie was predeceased by his wife Jean. He is survived by his brothers, Phillip Ownes, Charles Clardy and William Clardy. His Bingo family, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Leslie will be laid to rest in his hometown of Sapulpa, Ok. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the Black Veterans Project, an organization Leslie felt strongly about.
