Dad's journey began on December 7, 1926 in Mesquite, New Mexico with his parents Eulogio and Librada Hernandez. Dad grew up in Powell, Wyoming with his siblings Rose Hemminger, Mel Hernandez, Sarah Flores and Saul Hernandez. He was a devoted husband to Maria Hernandez of 29 years and a loving father to his girls Sylvia Cortez, Linda Travis, Sandra Southers, Lisa Jepson and Janet Marcy. Along with 3 stepsons and 3 stepdaughters and 10 grandchildren, 9 great- grandchildren with 8 step-grandchildren.

Dad worked for the Steel Mill in Fontana, California for 35 years. Where he was a Financial and Recording Secretary during his time there. He even went traveling to support the Steel Mill and all activities with the company. After retiring from the Steel Mill he went on to work for the Fontana School district. While working there and even after he retired from the district he was always there on Friday nights supporting our school football team Fontana High School "go Steelers"!!

He belonged to many clubs such as the Moose Lodge, V.F.W., American Legion and many others. He was always there for them on Fridays for dinner at the lodge and putting on parties at the Legion which he liked to do along with his late nephew David Chavez.

His most fond memories during his 92 years were the birth of all his grandchildren, graduations, birthdays, anniversaries and every holiday.

What can be said about our Dad Nick? He will be missed. We will miss his dancing which he loved to do, his smile, his laughter and the great times we had with him. He loved to barbecue, go fishing after work at 3pm, putting on parties for the family, Christmas time gatherings... we could go on and on but he was the life. He was devoted to St. Joseph Catholic Church and many others.

His favorite saying to all was "Never do what I do, do what I say." He was the type of person that loved what he was doing no matter what it was. We are proud of our dad for all he did for us...our Angel in heaven fly high...

I remember running into Mr. Hernandez many times while attending St. Joseph's, preparing for my Confirmation. He was a man who believed in his faith, and in students trying to prepare for the next step in their life.
I now work with his daughter, Sylvia. We get to chat once in a while, and finally got around to where we grew up. Well, it wasn't long before we realized that not only had we both grown up in Fontana, but there were many other parallels that started falling into place.
First, Mr. Hernandez and my dad both worked at Kaiser Steel. Then they both went to work for Fontana Unified School District. In 1972, her sister and I both ran for Little Miss Fontana, and that her family worshiped at St. Joseph's. My family split our time between St. Joseph's and Resurrection Churches. These are just a few of our families parallels. Each time we talk, more memories come forward...

To Sylvia and the entire Hernandez Family, my thoughts and prayers (as well as those of my family) are with you all during this time of sorrow and Loving Memories!
