Noemi G. Peña was born is Weslaco, Texas on February 13, 1938 and was called home to heaven on July 20, 2020. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Enrique L. Peña, Sr. (Henry) who passed into the arms of Jesus on February 29th of this year. When Enrique passed unexpectedly, Noemi told the family that they were supposed to “go together”. Just 4 and ½ months later, Noemi went to be with her beloved Henry. It is hard to talk about Noemi without including Enrique Sr. as they were always together and always in love.
Noemi is survived by three children and their spouses, Enrique Pena Jr. and Mary, Homero Pena and Jeanette and Claricia Valentino. As well as eight grandchildren and their spouses and eight great grandchildren. The grandchildren are Nicholas Rodriguez and Jessica Pena, Enrique L. Pena, III and Christina, Adam Pena, Jillian (Pena) and Daniel Mudd, Jacquelyn Valentino and Matt McDaniel, Jenna Pena, Christien Pena and Sean Pena and Taylor. Her great grandchildren are Alex, Andrew, Allie and Rhylee Rodriquez, Isaiah Pena and Taylor Gilmore, Jireh Alvarado, and Griffin Mudd.
Noemi was also preceded in death by her parents and many other family members. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins in California and Texas. Enrique and Noemi were beloved by so many because of their loving and giving nature. They were always there to lend a hand or give a word of advice. It will be that generous nature that will always be remembered by so many.
Enrique and Noemi came to California in 1964 to help with a wedding and take a vacation. It was here in California that Enrique saw better opportunities than in south Texas and they decided to stay. They never returned to Texas to live after that. Henry used to joke that it was the “longest vacation ever”. That said, Noemi always loved Texas and although they did visit frequently, she hoped to return there to live someday. She loved yellow roses because they reminded her of her home state and all her memories of Texas.
Noemi and Enrique were one of the founding families of the Primero Iglesia Bautista Church in Fontana where they gave their time, talents and treasure to further God’s kingdom here on earth. When they moved to the Redlands, they continued as members at the Iglesia Bautista Be-Tel Casa de Dios.
Noemi was an avid bowler and loved animals and for many the family had many favored pets. She also worked for several years at a convalescent hospital where she would brighten the day of the patients as she went about her duties. She always had a kind word and a sunny smile for them. Noemi loved to dance. She was always trying to get her Henry to dance with her. It was not his favorite thing to do, but he would for her, at least a little. Our prayer is that they will dance in heaven all she wants.
Although we say farewell to this beautiful, feisty, sometimes stubborn lady, we take heart in the knowledge and assurance that she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Enrique Sr., and many of their family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Noemi and Enrique’s church fellowship to support the ministries that they loved and supported. That address is Iglesia Bautista Be-Tel Casa de Dios, 300 E. Pennsylvania, Redlands, CA 92374. Please note in memory of Noemi Pena.
