Born in Durango, Mexico, Ofelia lived a life rooted in perseverance and devotion to those she loved. She carried with her the traditions and strength of her Mexican Catholic upbringing, where family, pride in one’s roots, and care for others were at the center of everything. She married the love of her life, Trinidad Valenzuela, and together they began their journey in Fontana, California, where she devoted herself to raising her family and creating a life grounded in love, care for others, and unconditional support.
To many, she was simply known as “Grandma,” a name that reflected not only her role within her family but the way she welcomed others into her life. She had a natural gift for connection and made friends wherever she went, especially during her daily walks where she was sure to find a “comadre” or two to share conversation and companionship.
Ofelia was gifted with her hands and expressed her love through sewing, crocheting, and knitting. From simple beanies and scarves to intricate folklórico and wedding dresses, she created clothing with care, intention, and pride. She loved all things green and was an avid gardener who could make nearly anything grow. With patience and determination, she once coaxed a mango tree to bear fruit after years of tending to it and refusing to give up.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. A devoted Catholic, she believed deeply in the power of prayer and held a special devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe and the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ. She prayed constantly for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and believed wholeheartedly in their future, their strength, and their purpose.
Ofelia’s devotion to family was not simply spoken, it was lived. Throughout her life, she placed herself wherever she was needed most, offering a steady presence, constant care, and quiet sacrifice. She supported each generation as they built their futures and later accepted care within the same circle of love she had nurtured for decades.
Because of her, children grew up knowing they were loved. Grandchildren grew up knowing where they came from. Great-grandchildren will grow up shaped by a foundation they may never fully see, but will always stand upon. Her influence moved through her family like a quiet current, steady and enduring, carrying forward resilience, strength, and unwavering love.
She is survived by her daughters, Guadalupe Valenzuela and Rosanna Valenzuela-Banac (Pete); her grandchildren David Valenzuela (Angelina), Jesse Valenzuela, Angel Valenzuela (Olivia), Mariana Mitchell (Michael), Celina Valenzuela, Andrea Banac, Lisa Marie Rodriguez (Noe), and Vanessa Banac; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; her brother Francisco Palacio; and sisters Antonia Palacio de Gallego, Socorro Palacio de Galvan, and Pilar Palacio.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Trinidad Valenzuela; her son, Jesus Valenzuela; her step-daughters Lily Valenzuela Caudillo, Dalia Valenzuela Solis, and Josie Valenzuela Marquez; her parents Felipe Flores Palacio and Casta Emilia Ibañez de Palacio; and sisters Emilia Palacio de Guerra, Berta Palacio de Matuk, and Susana Palacio de Contreras.
Ofelia’s life was defined by love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. We are deeply grateful for the years, wisdom, prayers, and unconditional love she gave so freely. The impact of her kindness and strength is immeasurable and will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and lovingly remembered.
