Rogelio Gonzalez was born on October 26th, 1980 in Torrance, CA. He passed away at Green Acres Cemetery, in Bloomington, CA on May 22nd, 2022. He was only 41 years old. He was the 3rd youngest of 4 brothers: Leo, Eduardo, and Hugo. Son of Leonardo and Martha Gonzalez. Rogelio spent his early years in Southern California between Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire. As a child he excelled in school and enjoyed playing sports. Many people knew him by his nickname “Goofie” which was his gang moniker. When he moved to Bloomington, CA with his family he made friends and became a gang member. He got into some trouble when he was a teenager and went to jail. In jail he was transferred to a juvenile boot camp where he obtained his G.E.D., played organized sports, and learned discipline. After being released he attended the Job Corps program and went to San Bernardino Community College. He later worked for San Bernardino County elected official Joe Baca.
Rogelio got into trouble again and was sent to Folsom State Prison for over 8 Years of his life. A couple months before he was scheduled to be released from prison his brother Eduardo “Lazie” Gonzalez was shot and killed in Bloomington, CA on May 22nd, 2009. Once Rogelio was released, he obtained employment and began to turn his life around. He did well for many years. But, once again Rogelio got into trouble and went to jail for over a year. He was later released and he had to start his life all over again. He moved back in with his parents Leo and Martha in Bloomington, CA. He rented a room from them and helped them around the house. He began a new hobby building and repairing motorcycles which turned into a source of income. He was finally at peace in his life, staying surrounded by only family and a few close friends.
On the morning of May 22nd, 2022 Rogelio woke up and had plans to peacefully visit his deceased brother Eduardo’s grave. This day was the anniversary day of his brother’s death. While visiting his brother’s grave site he was shot and killed right by his brother’s grave site on the same calendar date, around the same time of day, and only one block away from where his brother Eduardo was killed. Rogelio’s life was taken, but what can never be taken is his spirit and the mark he left on so many people’s lives. He will be forever remembered by the people who never turned their back on him. Everyone who knew him knew that loyalty was big to him, and he was an extremely loyal person. He was a very neat and clean person. He was always respectful to people who deserved it. He loved to listen to music, he loved to socialize and have a good time with friends and family. He had a playful domineer, and loved to joke around. His laugh was infectious and loud; it will forever be engraved in our memories.
Rogelio is survived by his three daughters: Ari (18), Gigi (15), and Mia (9). His family will carry on his memory. Thank you, Rogelio, for all the good times and great memories. You will be missed greatly and there will be a huge void in the family without you. We thank God for lending you to us for while and we know we will be with you again after this life. Fly high and may you rest in peace with your loving brother Eduardo.
