

Samuel Alexander Lipscomb, 77, of Rialto, California passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 from cancer. He was born on September 17, 1934 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Evelyn Mary Tucker and Randall (Ralph) Lipscomb. Sam was the fourth of five children and enjoyed cooking, fishing, boating, music and camping.
Sam is survived by his children Samuel (Susan) Lipscomb and Anthony (Lisa) Lipscomb. His brother George Tucker, sisters Claudette Magnum, Bertha Quarles and Catherine Brown. Grandchildren Alexis, Garrett and Samuel. Uncle Lovelace White and many loving cousins, nephews and nieces.
Military honors will be held at 2:15pm on Friday, September 14, at Riverside National Cemetery located at 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, California. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
Sam joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17, with the encouragement of his uncle and aunt, Bill and Flora Turner. He was honorably discharged after twenty-two years of service. During his time in the military, he was on the launch crew that fired an Atlas F unmanned missile for President John F. Kennedy on August 1, 1962, the day Sam's second son was born. He served in Viet Nam from February 1968 to September 1970 during the Tet Offensive. After retiring from the military, Sam worked for twenty years as a nurse for the California Correctional Department. Sam was a proud member the Tuskegee Airmen Association and the American Legion.
We say goodbye with sadness, but have a grateful heart for the blessing of having our father in our lives.
