Sharon Sue Beck

Sharon Beck of Yucaipa, California passed away peacefully with her family at her side on November 11, 2019 at age 74. Although suffering from failing health for some time, she was a fighter, kind, generous, loving, selfless, a good friend to many, and had the best smile and laugh.

She was born on August 22, 1945 in Denver, Colorado to parents Dale and Wilma Reich, and grew up in a small home on Catawba Ave. in Fontana, California. A sister, Dianna died as a baby. She lived next door to the Burke family, and she had a lifelong friendship with their daughter Louise. The families camped together in Carlsbad every summer. She enjoyed 4H Club, and cheerleading at both Sequoia Jr. High and Fontana High School.

She lived in Fontana for 54 years. She married Douglas R. Beck in 1962 and had son Roy and daughter Brenda. Her first job was at Barnett’s shoe store, where part of her job was to model shoes. She subsequently worked at Harris Company, Haley Construction, for a church ministry, and Pacific Corrugated Pipe Company. She ended up working at the Fontana Water Company for 38 years, retiring there after a bout with cancer. During her later years, she lived in Redlands and finally in Yucaipa, CA.

She was active in the community for many years and made many special friends. While belonging to the Kiwanis Club for 20 yrs, she received numerous awards and recognition for her special efforts. She was involved with the Fontana Special Olympics, served on the Board of Directors for the Fontana YMCA, and was on the Miss Fontana Pageant Committee. While serving on the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society she was involved with their Daffodil Days for many years.

She loved the Lord and devoted her life to her family. In addition to Roy and Brenda, she acted as a mother also to Roy and Brenda’s half-sister Nicole and devoted years to helping raise her grandchildren Kristy, Tanner and Ryder. They were the light of her life. She played cards, went to plays and movies, and went on road trips and cruises.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her son Roy and his wife Tammy, and her daughter Brenda and her husband Jaime Brunton, along with her grandchildren and Nicole.
