Arvid Ekis, 88, of Bloomington, formerly of the Rockford area, passed away at 9:59am Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Heritage Health in Bloomington.
Arvid was born June 5, 1923 in rural Latvia. He married Emily Austrums July 22, 1947 in Germany; she preceded him in death.
Surviving are 2 sons, Gunar Ekis, Bloomington and Richard Ekis, Monterey, CA; 1 daughter Ingrid Gross, El Cajon, CA; 4 grandchildren Matthew, Brian and Kimberly Ekis, Bloomington and Ben Gross, El Cajon, CA.
Arvid immigrated to Mt. Carroll, IL in 1951. He resided in the Rockford area for many years, working as a stone mason until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bloomington.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Sunday, December 4, 2011 at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.
