Ashton A. Welker, 3, of Bloomington went home to be with the Lord in the comfort of her home and surrounded by her family on October 13, 2021. Matthew and Tori (Justice) Welker were blessed with her on October 5, 2018.
Surviving are her loving parents; sisters: Alena and Adelynn; maternal grandparents: Troy (Lori) Justice; and paternal grandparents: Thomas Welker and Kimberlee Welker.
Ashton was a heart warrior and proudly rocked her extra chromosome as a child with Down Syndrome. Even though she had 4 open heart surgeries and too many procedures, pokes, and prods to count, she had a smile that could light up the room and a stink eye that could melt the hardest of hearts. She was known for "playing possum" when doctors, nurses, or grandpa walked into the room. She always pointed and asked "What's that?" and liked to yell "All done!" whenever anything beeped. Her love for Baby Shark, dancing, her sisters, and dog, Lacey, was undeniable. Ashton was a true blessing from God. While she was here for 3 short years her medical battles never triumphed over her spirit. It was that spirit that touched the lives of many people who followed her story. Ashton may have been known by few, but was loved and cherished by many.
A public visitation will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 10 – 11 am with a Celebration of Life at 11 am.
A special thank you to Central Illinois Down Syndrome Organization (CIDSO) and the wonderful doctors, nurses, and therapists who were a part of Ashton’s care.
