Betty Lou Felles was born Beatrice Elizabeth Andreu on January 30, 1926 in St. Augustine, Florida. Her parents were Peter Palmer Andreu and Clara Belle Miller Canova Andreu. Her father died two years after her birth in a tragic accident while working for the Florida East Coast Railway. He was transporting an injured coworker to the hospital in his automobile when his car was struck by a train. She had two brothers, Alger and Peter Andreu; a sister, Vonda Luke, and a step-brother, Leonard Royce Underwood.
Betty Lou married Robert Eugene Felles in Folkston, Georgia on December 13, 1947. Being married to a sailor, she moved about the country quite a bit. After retiring from the Navy (1960) and Caterpiller (1987), Bob brought Betty home to St. Augustine as he had promised. Betty enjoyed working at Walmart in St. Augustine as well as playing bingo and working in her yard. Bob passed away in 2005. They had four children, Vonda (Mickey) Bopp, Pekin, IL; Gail Ann Meredith, St. Augustine, FL; Robert (Bobby) E. Felles Jr., St. Augustine, FL and Patricia (Patty) Pocopanni, Bloomington, IL.
Betty also leaves behind her sister, Vonda Luke of Melbourne Beach, FL, as well as her sons-in-law, Carl Bopp and Jerry Pocopanni, and daughter-in-law Suanne Felles. Betty had six grandchildren who loved to visit their “Mimi” in St. Augustine. They are Larry (Holly) Miller-Bopp, Barhamsville, VA; Laura Bopp, Nashville, TN; Lisa Bopp, Dallas, TX; Doug Bopp, Pekin, IL; Taylor Pocopanni, Tulsa, OK and Casey Pocopanni, Birmingham, AL. She was also blessed with two great-grandsons, Jacob and Isaac Miller-Bopp, Barhamsville, VA.
On early Friday morning, June 26, 2015, Betty passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her daughters, Mickey and Patty. Betty’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Evenglow Inn in Pontiac, IL for their kindness and love in which they treated our mother. Also,they would like to extend their gratitude to Father Carl LoPresti, of Chenoa, IL who visited Betty regularly and with whom she thoroughly enjoyed visiting.
A private memorial and burial service will be held in St. Augustine, FL.
