Charles Murrell

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington, where visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment will follow services at Hopewell Cemetery in Downs.

He was the youngest of 11 children born to Ben C. and Sara B. Henson Murrell on March 23, 1924 during a blizzard in Colfax. He married his wife, Doris Opal McGee on February 19, 1943, she preceded him in death on July 15, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents; nine siblings; one daughter, Patti Flurer and one grandson, Chip Flurer.

He began his career working on the farm, later working on farm equipment and finally becoming a diesel mechanic for many years at GMC Trucks and Darnall Concrete.

Mr. Murrell was daddy to his four daughters, Myra (Jack) Roberts and Beverly (Mike) Gould, both of Heyworth and Barbara (Wayne) Williams of Bloomington and the late, Patti Flurer. He has seven grandchildren, April Kletz of Downs, Charles (Paula) Flurer of Bloomington, Jesse (Mary) Roberts of Downs, Christi Shutt of LeRoy, Todd (Deana) Roberts of Downs, Andrew (Jennifer) Williams of LeRoy and Anthony (Terra) Williams of Pekin and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Nannie Roy of Bloomington.
