

Charlie was born in Bloomington on October 4, 1940 to Richard and Alberta Roberts Steele. He later married Carolyn Jen Bauman and was her devoted husband for over 50 years. Carolyn survives.
Also surviving are 3 sons, Rod Steele, Charles “Junior” Steele, both of Bloomington and Eric (Bobbi) Steele, Cooksville; 2 daughters, Marie Steele, Mosinee, WI and Sarah (Kevin) Powell, Bloomington; 8 grandchildren, Sturgis Dan Steele, Lucas Steele, Amanda Stevens, Jenni Steele, Elizabeth Stevens, Tim Buzick, Rick Powell and Taylor Barnard; 4 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother John (Katie) Steele, of Washington state.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Don Steele.
Charlie worked as a construction laborer for Laborer’s Local #362; he retired from Rowe Construction in 1995. Charlie was a devoted father and grandfather. He was also an avid Harley-Davidson rider, and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and camping.
A casual open house celebration will be held at Laborer’s Local #362, 2005 Cabintown Rd., Bloomington, Saturday, March 31, 2012 beginning at 2pm. A private inurnment will be held at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Arrangements are under the care of East Lawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Cancer Center.
