Charles S. Townsend, 71, of Bloomington passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 7:10 p.m. at OSF St. Joseph in Bloomington. He was born July 11, 1947 in Shelbyville, the son of Gareth and Retha Hopkins Townsend. He married Janet Gordon on March 8, 1980 in McLean. She survives.
Charles served his country in the Army during the Vietnam era. He was a servant for God and enjoyed life and helping others. He retired from American Builders in El Paso after 30 years. He also served as a bus driver for Unit 5.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Scott (Ginger) Townsend of Ellendale, North Dakota; and Michelle Aryal of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Cassandra (Trevor) Taylor; and Abigail, Ethan, and Melinda Townsend; a brother, Gary (Patty) Townsend; a sister, Glenda (Rick) Reichart; and in-laws, Jean and Gary Masters; and Claude and Jeanne Gordon.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Townsend.
A celebration of life will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church in Normal. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
