Charles was born April 1, 1933, in Lincoln, IL, to Alice and Reverend Louis O. Unger. He married Elsbeth Baumgardner Reeg on October 15, 1955, in Bloomington, IL. They were happily married for 56 years.
He is survived by his daughter Gisela (Dale) Sinn of Heyworth; sister Suzanne (Herb) Thompson of Kankakee; grandchildren Chuck (Diana) Sinn and Michael (Kris) Sinn, both of Heyworth; great-grandchildren Austin, Abi, and Cole Sinn of Heyworth and Hollie (Elijah) Bobell of Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother.
Charles served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, stationed in Babenhausen, Germany. Charles retired from Meadow Gold after 37 years of service. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, venturing all over the United States and making three trips back to his wife’s home country of Switzerland. Both loved their time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, following them to many of their school activities. In addition, Charles “Opa” and Elsbeth “Oma” never missed a chance to take their great-grandchildren to Branson, MO. Charles enjoyed his last few weeks in Branson, viewing his favorite shows and entertainers.
Services for Charles will be Monday, October 28th, 2019, at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon, with the funeral service following at noon. Reverend Herb Thompson and Reverend Jeremiah Thompson will officiate. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.
