Towanda, IL. Charlotte Jean Merritt 88 of Towanda passed away at 2:23 AM Sunday January 24th at her residence.

Charlotte was born March 1, 1932 the daughter of Roy and Daisy Beal. She married Paul Merritt in 1950 in Tunica, MS.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Paul Merritt and also two daughters, Sue Reynolds (David) and Kathy Merritt of Towanda.

5 Grandchilden: Megan Merritt-Klemme, Scott Merritt, Chad Merritt. Betsy Oglesby and Ryan Reynolds.

9 great granchildren. Ketra Hanson, Amanda King, Dylan Merritt, Trevor Merritt, Alyxndra Merritt, Matthew Merritt, Berlin Reynolds, Lucky Reynolds and Kinley Oglesby.

Also 4 Great Great Grandchildren: Murphy Hanson, Connor Hanson, Maia King and Riley King.

Surviving siblings: Roy Beal, Marvin Beal, Steve Beal, Dorothy Gross & Linda Hurt

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy & Daisy Beal. Her son , Paul Merritt Jr. and her infant daughter, Robin Merritt.

Charlotte worked for a few years as head cook at Towanda Grade School but went back to homemaker once her first grandchild arrived. She loved her family very much. First came her grandchildren & she was thrilled, then she was even more excited when there were great grandkids, but she lived long enough to see 4 great great grandchildren and that was a special joy to her. She was always full of life and had a great big smile for everyone.

A graveside service for Charlotte and Paul will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 1 pm at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1002 Airport Road, Bloomington.
