Daniel was born June 3, 1952 in Pekin, IL to Ivan and Fern (Riley) Rhoades. He married Julie Hammer on May 1, 1982.
He was a committed husband, having just celebrated 42 years of marriage to his wife, Julie. He was a loving and active father to his 5 children. Dan was a United States Army Veteran serving 2 years of Active Duty. He worked for General Electric for 34 years as a Warehouse Marshall, retiring in 2007. After retirement he enjoyed reading, collecting books, sports memorabilia, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He was one of a kind, with a quick wit and a quirky sense of humor. His mind full of stories and trivia was passed down to his children and grandchildren. As an avid Chicago Cubs fan, one of the highlights of his life was to go to the 2016 spring training in Mesa and see then win the World Series that same year. Dan had a light heart and a way to make anyone in his presence laugh. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; his five children, Lindsay (Chris Dennison) Rhoades, Kelly (Bryan) Chesnut, Dustin (Jessica) Rhoades, Shawn Rhoades and Andrew (Morgan) Rhoades; grandchildren, Jack Heynen, Addison Rhoades and Daniel Rhoades; sisters, Shirley Siscoe, Margie Kaufman; brother, Alan (Linda) Rhoades, and sister in law, Donna Rhoades. He is also survived by his and Julie’s Extended families, friends, and his special Beagle, Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ernie Rhoades; brothers-in-law, Doug Siscoe and Larry Kaufman; niece, Jenny Rhoades; and father-in-law, Pete Hammer.
The family would like to give special thanks to Sugar Creek Special Alzheimer’s Care Center for their compassion and outstanding care for Dan throughout the year.
