She was born August 2, 1953, in Bloomington, IL, the second child of David C. and Shirley L. (Woith) Schulz. Dixie graduated from Bloomington High School in 1971 and attended the Mennonite School of Nursing to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Dixie leaves behind her sisters, Darlene Pratt and Kim Erickson; nieces and nephews, Stacey (Brett Hinthorn) Erickson and Andrew (Serena) Erickson, Scott (Chelsea) and Sara Pratt (fiancé John Wade); and six great nieces and five great nephews, as well as her two treasured dogs, Storm and Scout. She also leaves extended non-related family friends, Diane and Tom McNabb, Texas; Karen Bandusch Harris, North Carolina; and Elizabeth Parker, Washington, who she had lengthy weekly telephone conversations with each. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Debbie.
Dixie worked over 48 years at OSF in various departments at the hospital and the Fort Jesse Road facility with Dr. Joseph Liu, her doctor and friend. During her spare time she enjoyed reading, tatting, crocheting, beading, count cross stitch, diamond dotz pictures, and whatever new skill she saw on YouTube that interested her.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. memorial services.
Memorials may be made payable to "Ruby's Rescue and Retreat" in McLean, Illinois.
