Doris Mae Beverage

Doris was born on October 27, 1932 to Chelsea and Cleo (Hinshaw) Harper on their farm in Woodford County, IL. Doris attended several one room schools around Carlock and Hudson, IL, before she graduated from Normal Community High School in 1950 and went on to attend Illinois State University for two years.

She married Donald Beverage on March 9, 1952 at the Hudson Christian Church in Hudson, IL. They enjoyed 70 years of marriage. Doris worked at State Farm while Don served in Korea. Upon his return, they ran a dairy farm in Bloomington, IL. This farm had no running water, so Doris drew water, boiled it and washed all the milking equipment two times a day to sterilize it in order to receive Grade A milk certification. Interstate 55 was going to run through the farm so Don and Doris moved to San Jose, IL, where they lived and farmed for 36 years. They later moved back to Doris' grandfather Hinshaw's farm in Carlock, IL, where they lived and farmed for another 30 years.

Doris is survived by her three daughters, Linda Beverage of Pekin, IL, Judy Beverage and Cheryl (Bryan) Headrick, both of Mattoon, IL; one grandson, Branden Beverage of Hoopeston, IL and three great-grandsons, Wylee Herchuee of Hoopeston, IL, Jonah Brewer and Elijah Connor, both of Charleston, IL. She is also survived by one sister, Elaine Swope of Normal, IL.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Donald; two brothers, Glenn Harper and Donald Harper and one great-granddaughter, Bella Jo Beverage.

Doris enjoyed serving the Lord, teaching, homemaking, and promoting agriculture. She taught Sunday School for many years in San Jose and thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Hudson Christian Church Ladies Aide. Doris was proud of being a farmer and educating people about agriculture through her monthly article in the Tazewell County Farm Bureau paper and serving as a member and President of the Tazewell County Farm Bureau Women's Committee. She loved cooking and sewing and was an excellent seamstress, where she put her skills to good use as the Superintendent of the clothing building at the Mason County 4-H Fair, and a member of the Mason County Home Extension.

Doris was an exceptional wife, mother and grandmother. Everyone who knew her loved her. She will be greatly missed.

Her memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at the Hudson Christian Church in Hudson, IL, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am.
