Ellen L. Rudicil passed away at home June 29th surrounded by her family and close friends. A private family ceremony will be held Thursday, July 3rd at 1pm and a Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, July 8th from 5-7pm at Rob Dob’s in Bloomington.
Ellen was born March 3, 1949 in Bloomington to Ernest and Georgia Cundiff. As an only child, Ellen was so deeply loved and cherished by her parents which carried over to the care and love she gave to her own children and grandchildren. Ellen graduated from Bloomington High School and took secretarial classes locally. She met Michael “Rudy” Rudicil in the fall of 1967 and they were married in June of 1969. They moved into the home of her great uncle, which her father renovated, and Ellen raised her family and lived there through her final days. Ellen and Rudy were blessed with four children: Amy (Eric) Short, Mark (Jen) Rudicil, Shaun (Kristen) Rudicil, and Michael (Carla) Rudicil, all of Bloomington. The pride she felt for their success was limitless. She had 13 grandchildren by her side at the end to say goodbye to a very special grandma. Ellen was also blessed with seven great grandchildren.
Ellen worked for a time at the YMCA as an aerobics instructor and later working as the Office Manager. She enjoyed the many friendships she developed in her capacity at the Y. She enjoyed travel that didn’t include flying. Ellen and Rudy purchased a condo at Lake of the Ozarks that became another source of family fun. Her passion for her flowers and home decorating were legendary. Her friends in her Bunco group were very special to her. To say she was a fan of the ISU basketball program would be an understatement. She didn’t want to go to Florida in the winter because she didn’t want to miss an ISU game. She will be missed by all that knew her big heart and caring nature; including her horse, Rio, and her little buddies Cody and Bailey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regional Alternative School in memory of Ellen Rudicil.
