Faye A. Hansen

She was born on May 2nd, 1932, in Paxton, Illinois, to Otis Roscoe and Elsie S. (Ziegler) Woolridge.

Faye worked as a beautician and was talented in many ways. Far more than anything, Faye was a caregiver. A self-made woman, she lived with wisdom, quiet strength and appreciation for everyone and everything. Above all, she was a devoted advocate and supporter for those she loved and an exceptional caregiver to everyone who crossed her path. She inspired many through her generosity and selflessness, asking only that others carry forward the same strong spirit of compassion and advocacy.

She is survived by her son, Mike Hansen of Normal, along with several nieces and nephews. She was a devoted mother, aunt, great-aunt, great great aunt, and honorary grandmother whose guidance, love, and values left a lasting impression on her entire family. Her nieces and nephews lovingly called her "Aunt Faye," though she was undoubtedly their mother or grandmother figure.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Hansen; her two sisters; and her life partner, Richard "Dick" Leiser.

Faye enjoyed playing card games, especially solitaire, and enjoyed working on puzzles. These quiet pastimes reflect her thoughtful nature and gift for solving problems. A remarkable storyteller, listeners treasured the memories of her nearly century status and shared them with warmth, intention, and gentle humor. Her strength and advocacy was on the forefront of disability rights in the community and she inspired many teachers, parents, community members, family members- but most importantly - Mike.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of The Loft Rehabilitation and Nursing for the compassionate care, kindness, patience, and meaningful relationships they shared with Faye these past two years. We also extend our gratitude to Transitions Hospice Care - this was an incredible team. She was especially grateful to be with Mike and to know her son was surrounded by dedicated caregivers. She took great pride and comfort in seeing the advocacy she had instilled in him throughout his life - their relationship will forever be special and a true testimony of the unmatched love of a great mother.
