

His funeral will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where visitation will begin at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow services at Greenwood Cemetery, Arrowsmith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.

He was born April 3, 1938 in Arrowsmith, son of Robert Louis and Elvare Franklin Garrett. He first married Charlotte A. Miller. He later married Joyce Stiger Sellberg on December 11, 1980, she preceded him in death on May 10, 2025 in Bloomington. He was also preceded in death by his parents and 13 siblings.
Surviving are three children, Allen Garrett, Timothy Garrett and Lisa (Kerry Oneal) Garrett, all of Gibson City, as well as children that he was blessed with from his union to Joyce, Bill, Jr (Joan) Sellberg, LeRoy, Cindy (Randy) Oyler, Cerra Gordo, Kathy Sellberg and Tom (Linda) Sellberg, both of Bloomington and Tony (Teri) Sellberg, Alabama. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Cody Garrett, Shelby Garrett, Joshua Garrett, Benjamin Garrett, Jordan Greenlee, Leslie Bell, Tina Mattingly, Wes Lindley, JW Sellberg, Jayme Knapp, Kari Elam, Brooke Carcamo, Madison Sellberg and Cody Sellberg; 30 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Fulkerson, Normal and a host of nieces and nephews. Also left behind to mourn Whitey's passing is his beloved dog, "Murphy."
Whitey was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #649. After many years, he retired from Stark Excavating, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator.
He loved fishing, golf, NASCAR and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed spending his free time camping and dancing with his wife, Joyce. Whitey could often be found tending to his garden and or canning his vegetables. He will be fondly remembered for his homemade horseradish.
Whitey was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #68 of Sullivan and also a member of the Moose Lodge #2289 of Gibson City.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of OSF Hospice for their care and compassion to Whitey and his family since December of 2023.
