

Fred was born July 30, 1944 in Taylorville to Cecil and Alice Armstrong Tanner. He married Valerie Kay Riley August 26, 1969, she survives.
Also surviving are daughters, Cynthia Lea (Nicholas Shaffer) Tanner and Rebecca Kay (Travis) Thacker, both of Bloomington; 2 grandchildren, Noah Declan Shaffer and Addison Kay Thacker; 2 sisters, Ida Eilleen Dungey and Anna Lee Ressler; and 1 brother, Bill Earl (Jackie) Tanner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Cecil Ronald Tanner, 1 sister, Leahnor June Kennedy, and 1 brother-in-law, Byron Dungey.
Memorial services will be held at 12 noon, Monday December 3, 2012 at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Visitation will begin at 10:00am until the time of services at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been entrusted to East Lawn Funeral Home. Private burial of the urn will take place at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, with military honors rendered.
Fred served his country in the Air Force during Vietnam. He was self-employed as a residential roofer for 26 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed helping his friends on their farms, and was a volunteer at the Bloomington Center for Performing Arts for several years. He will be missed by all who knew him.
