

Heyworth – Gary W. Bonds, 70, of Heyworth, formerly of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2013, as the result of an automobile accident. He was born on January 29, 1943 in Decatur to Wayne and Vera Ellis Bonds. He married Diana Hester on August 12, 1994. She survives along with two sons Greg Bonds of Decatur and Gary (Monica) Bonds of Florida; three step-children Pam (George) Jones, Scott (Kathy) Hester and Jodi (Mike) Rich.; eleven Grandchildren Hope Bonds, Jake and Bailey Bonds, Matt and Tyler Jones, Kyle and Kali Hester, Kari Sellberg, and Todd, Kelsi and Nick Rich; two Great Grandchildren Colton McBride and Camden Rich; and three brothers Jim Bonds of Elko, NV, Pete (Tina) Bonds of Groveland, CA and Rick Bonds of Decatur. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local # 916 for 35 years. He retired from USF Holland Trucking Company in April of 2003. Upon retiring from trucking, he worked for the Decatur Park District at Hickory Point Golf Course in Forsythe.
Gary proudly served his country as a United States Marine, serving in the Viet Nam War from 1960 to 1964. He was a member of the Heyworth American Legion and the Masonic Lodge of Decatur. He was an avid golfer, a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and a Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to Mesa, AZ for the winter months.
Gary will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington. Cremation will then be accorded. A visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 AM Thursday, prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, the Heyworth American Legion, or to the donor’s choice.
