

Gil was born July 21st, 1924 in Oliver, Indiana, the son of Gertrude (Hutson) and Charles Causey. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Indiana University, graduating with an M.D. degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1947. He married Helen E. Denny, M.D. in July 1949. He and his wife moved to Normal in July 1950 and established Anesthesia Associates to serve all three Bloomington/Normal hospitals. He retired from practice in 1990. During his 40 year career he served on the Brokaw Hospital Board of Directors, as President of the Brokaw Hospital Medical-Dental Staff, as Director of Inhalation Therapy and as Chief of the Section of Anesthesia.
During World War II he served as Pfc. in the Army Specialized Training Program at Indiana University. He completed his military service with two years of service from October 1954 through October 1956 with USAEUR in Germany. It was while he was stationed in Germany that he developed a passion for travel that would stay with him for the rest of his life. He traveled extensively throughout his retirement and enjoyed the diverse circle of good friends he made around the world. Whether he was SCUBA diving in Mexico, Asia, or the Caribbean or simply sightseeing around the world, he never grew tired of travel or planning his next trip.
Gil is survived by his daughter Gayle B. Causey of Normal, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, wife Helen E. Denny, and son James D. Causey.
