Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 8th at 10 a.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington. Burial will be held at a later date.
Born in Shirley on March 24, 1924, he is survived by his wife JoAnne; two daughters, Tonda (Doyle) Hartle of Champaign and Taylor (Randy) Christman of Austin, Texas; a son James (Carmella) Gates of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandchildren, Julie Behm, Jason Hartle, Christopher McWhorter, Carrie Marlow, Cassandra Gates, and Jazmine Burkett; as well as seventeen great grandchildren.
Gordon was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Gates and several brothers and sisters.
Gordon was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy. He retired from General Telephone, and later worked for American Fire & Electric. He was a master gardener, and loved to travel, taking his family on many adventurous trips. He was a help to many and could fix almost anything that was broken.
