Vince was born in Mason City, Iowa on August 15, 1939 to Harold Vernon and Mildred Ledora (Creekmur) Hanson. He attended Mason City High School and graduated in 1957. Upon graduation, he attended school at the American College of Radiology and graduated with an associate degree in Radiology. He was then drafted into the United States Army in 1962 and served two years in the service working as an X-ray specialist. In the Army, he was awarded an Expert Weapons Qualification Badge as well as a Good Conduct medal. Vince married Linda Ehlers on May 9, 1970 in Springfield, Illinois. After two years in Bloomington, they built a house in Colfax, Illinois where they lived and raised their family for 46 years. They had three children and were proud of them and cherished watching their grandchildren grow up. In May this year, Vince and Linda celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family.
Vince started his career at Brokaw Hospital in 1959 and was hired as an X-ray technician.
In 1984, he continued as the Director of Radiology for BroMenn Regional Healthcare until his retirement in November 2001. Vince truly enjoyed his role at the hospital and loved working with his employees, the radiologists, other hospital directors and the administration. He was especially well-respected by his employees, being a tough, yet fair boss whose compassion brought out the best in his employees and allowed his department to provide the utmost care experience. He led the redesign of the new department and brought new radiologic technologies to the hospital including nuclear medicine and ultrasound. He was also an integral part of the Bloomington-Normal School of Radiography program and a mentor to the radiology students and staff as well as a long-standing member of the School advisory board during his career. His daughter, Christine, and daughter-in-law, Angie, both graduated and worked for Vince at the hospital for several years.
Upon retirement, Vince could be found walking the ‘nine’ at Indian Springs golf course. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching stock car races, fishing, baseball and dancing. He was a life-long loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers. Vince enjoyed his friends and family and would never miss a party – the first to arrive and the last to leave. He was also known to have some of the best jokes.
Vince is survived by his wife: Linda (Ehlers) Hanson, daughters: Christine Marie Hanson, Amy Leah (Jay) McManus, son: Dirk Aaron (Angie) Hanson, grandchildren: Haley Christine (Shelby) Jeorgesen, Tyler Ryan Hanson, Brooke Ashley Hanson, Luke Aaron Hanson, and Liv Anna McManus; sisters: Mildred Ann Hickey, Marcia Miller, and Marie Toman.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents.
