Irene T. Bourgerie, 86, of Normal passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at her residence and with her husband by her side. She was born April 12, 1937, in Chicago, IL, to Lawrence and Julia (Bernarciak) Guthier. Irene married the love of her life, Dennis Bourgerie in Funks Grove on September 22, 1979. She graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education and taught as well as counseled at several schools throughout her career. Right out of college, Irene taught at Central Catholic High School. From there she moved over to assisting the children at Lincoln High School and substitute teaching with a few other schools. Irene retired from her teaching and counseling career with Saybrook-Arrowsmith High School and used her free time, enjoying her days with her husband, Dennis, by her side.
Survivors include her loving spouse of 44 years, Dennis Bourgerie; children, Shawn (Anita) Bourgerie, Michael Bourgerie; many friends including the Bozarth’s and the Lehman’s; the many many friends she made at the Arc; and her caregivers at All in the Hands of Care.
She is preceded in passing by her parents, Lawrence and Julia Guthier; and brothers, Lawrence Guthier and Bernard Guthier.
Arrangements have been entrusted to East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. A short visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., with a Funeral Mass held at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 106 West Chestnut St., Bloomington, IL 61701.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes.
