90, of Lexington, Ill
The morning of April 21, 2017, the Lord called home Iva JoAnn Coleman as she was surrounded by family. She was 90 years old.
Visitation for JoAnn will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Lexington Community Church, Lexington Ill. Memorial services will follow at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Bloomington Ill., following the memorial service, Kendall Coffman officiating. She was a member of the Saverton Ilasco United Methodist Church in Missouri.
JoAnn was born Sept. 12, 1926, the daughter of Lloyd and Leola Denler, She graduated from Eureka High School and then graduated from Brokaw Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 and worked as a head nurse at Brokaw Hospital in Normal, Ill., then in administration of Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal, Mo. She enjoyed traveling as well as being a quilter and an avid Cubs fan.
JoAnn is survived by her children, Barbara (Gregory) Therien, Lexington; Roger (Glenna) Coleman, Kappa; Susan Coleman, Bloomington; Peggy (Dan) Powell, Lexington; and Patti (Larry) Smashey, New London, Mo. JoAnn has 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Doris (Howard) Todd, Carlock; and Phyllis (Kenneth) Knapp, Palmyra, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; one sister, Marilyn Woosley; and two brothers, Richard and Raymond Denler.
JoAnn’s delight was being with her family while at ball games, camping, fishing or just hanging out. She greeted everyone with a smile and was our in house nurse to anyone in the family who had babies or any illness. Her devotion to her family and God was evident in everything she did.
JoAnn will be greatly missed by family and those who knew her.
We want to thank the hospice staff (especially her nurse, Cathy) for the wonderful care and friendship you showed JoAnn during her illness.
