

She was born on March 23, 1956 in Bloomington, daughter of William Edward and Helen Ruth (Marshall) Petersen. She married Richard "Rick" Alvin Williamson on October 25, 1980 in Bloomington.
Surviving are her husband, Rick of Bloomington; children, Sheila (Bill) Guither of Bloomington, Jessica (Jeremy Scott) Williamson-Scott of Danvers, and Jason (Amanda Smith-Hill) Hill of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and five grandchildren, Madison (Laura Reeder) Guither, Zoe Guither, Jonah Guither, Nathaniel Scott, and Eve Hansen. Also surviving are 12 siblings, William (Dianne) Petersen Jr, Virginia Mann, Inez Mott, Richard (Jan) Petersen, Vivian (David) Wulf, Eugene (Robbin) Petersen, Diana Berry, Wilma Anderson, Kenneth Petersen, David (Kalyn) Petersen, Yvonne (Keith) LaCombe and Ronald (Sherri) Petersen and many generations of extended family members.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Petersen, and many other beloved family members.
She worked as a registered nurse for 42 years in the obstetrics (OB) department of OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, where she made many lasting friendships and enhanced the lives of every new mom and baby she served. Janet was recognized multiple times for nursing excellence throughout her career.
Janet enjoyed camping with her family, her flower garden, and listening to the birds. She loved road trips to “wherever” with Rick and trips to the beach with her sisters. Her greatest enjoyment of all was spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart.
Her funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 6, 2026 at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where visitation will follow the service from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Cremation rites will be accorded after services. A private inurnment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington at a later date.
