

He was born February 3, 1952, in Bloomington, IL to William and Evelyn (Padgett) Leininger. After graduating from Heyworth High School in 1970, Jerry enlisted in the Army National Guard from 1970-1976. He married the love of his life, Cynthia Stengel on March 7, 1970. Jerry worked at Mitsubishi Motor of America before retiring due to his first battle with cancer. Jerry was a member of many organizations that he enjoyed in particularly, the Bloomington Elks Lodge 281 and the GOC (Guardian of the Children) motorcycle group, as he was known as the “One Eyed Bandit”.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 54 years; his children, Lori Gomez, Scott Leininger and Michael (Roen) Leininger; his grandchildren, Josue’ Gomez, Austin M. Leininger, Jaden Gomez, Nathan Leininger, and Mia Leininger; siblings, Don (Helene) Leininger, Linda (Roger) Hagar and Gordon (Janice) Leininger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William Lee “Butch” Leininger and his in-laws, Rex and Betty Miller.
Per Jerry’s wishes, cremation rites were accorded. Visitation services to celebrate the life of Jerry will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. noon on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at East Lawn Funeral Home 1102 Airport Road, Bloomington, IL 61704.
