Jewell D. Porzelius, 78, of Havana, formerly of Normal, passed from this life to a better one at 11:48 p.m. on Monday, September 6, 2010 at her home, after a short illness.
She was born February 19, 1932 in Highland, Ark., daughter of Irvin and Mary Leona Jeffery McDowell. She married Glenn E. Porzelius on March 24, 1962 in Bloomington.
Surviving are her husband of Havana; three sons, Jerry Adcock of Havana; Tom (Ginnie) Adcock of Bloomington and Ron (Kris) Adcock of Normal; one step-son, Glenn S. (Sheila) Porzelius of LeRoy and one step-daughter, Connie Young of Ada, OH. Also surviving are ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two sisters, Joyce (Edgar) Woodruff and Wilma Womack, both of Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one step-son and two brothers.
Jewell worked for many years at Steak ‘N Shake and later at the Eureka Company before retiring in 1989. She attended Covell Community Church in Stanford, IL.
Jewell and Glenn were married for 48 years and after retirement, moved to Havana. Both loved to travel and enjoyed a simple country life together. Jewell enjoyed her children and grandchildren very much and she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
When Jewell bravely passed, she took a piece of our hearts with her. Though her pain is now gone, our sorrow will remain. But someday, in a far different land, we will meet again. She asked only this from the ones who loved her so; “Love me, but let me go.”
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 10, 2010 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. Entombment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Bloomington.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be submitted to www.EastLawn-Bloomington.com.
