Joan F. Burger

Joan married the love of her life, Robert L. Burger on March 23, 1957 and shared 56 years together. Joan attended Mennonite School of Nursing and became an RN in 1977, serving as a Staff and Head Nurse for several departments at Mennonite Hospital. Later she went on to work in Patient Care Management and Post-Anesthesia Recovery/Outpatient Surgery for BroMenn Regional Medical Center. Joan was a faithful church attendee at Morningstar United Methodist Church in Normal, as well as Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Glen Allen, VA, and Park United Methodist Church in Bloomington, IL.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Robert Jr. (Carol) Burger of Normal, IL, Michael (Jan) Burger of Henrico, VA, Eva (John) McKee of Seminole, FL; grandchildren: Michael (Marisa) Burger, Ross (Maggie) Burger, Michaela Price, Melissa Burger, Colleen (Dakota) Pawlicki; great-grandchildren: Avery Burger, Caden Burger, Riley Burger, Kellen Burger, Margo Burger; and sister: Lana McBride of Paris, IL.

Joan loved to crochet and made and gifted countless blankets to family, friends and charitable organizations. She also was a master cook and baker and her desserts, especially Texas chocolate cake are legendary. Joan was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed.

Arrangements and cremation rites have been accorded with East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held in spring 2024.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN) Strategic Initiative Fund.
