Kimberly Lynn Abbott (née Lowe), age 62, passed away on May 30, 2025, in Normal, Illinois. Born on October 23, 1962, in Madison, Wisconsin, Kim lived a life marked by resilience, creativity, and unwavering love for those around her.
Kim was the beloved daughter of LeRoy Lowe and Clarice Black Lowe, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tony Abbott. She is survived by her two daughters, Jenna Abbott and Katelyn Abbott—her greatest joys and the center of her world. Kim's life was also enriched by the companionship of her beloved dog, Neopolitan—affectionately known as Neo—who remained faithfully by her side.
Kim pursued higher education at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Drafting Technology. Her passion for precision and planning led her to further her expertise through the Project Management Certificate Program and ultimately achieve the prestigious Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Throughout her career, Kimberly distinguished herself as a skilled and respected project manager. Among her many professional accomplishments, she received special recognition for her contributions to a government-initiated project developed in response to the events of September 11, 2001. Her work on this initiative placed her among a select group whose efforts were acknowledged for their significance and impact during a pivotal time in national history.
Throughout her life, Kim demonstrated remarkable strength and compassion. Despite facing numerous challenges, she consistently put others before herself. Her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Those who knew Kim remember her as an astonishingly strong and loving person—a rare gem whose presence brought warmth and light to every room.
Kim had a deep passion for the arts and self-expression. She found joy in reading, writing and playing guitar, often using these outlets to reflect on life’s beauty and complexity. Her hands were rarely still; she loved making jewelry and collecting beads, crafting pieces that reflected her vibrant spirit. Traveling was another of Kim’s great loves. In recent years, she embarked on several memorable journeys across the United States. From apartment hunting with Jenna in Los Angeles to exploring the breathtaking landscapes of national parks throughout the northern and northeastern regions of the country, Kim embraced every opportunity to experience new places and create lasting memories.
Even while enduring a horrendous illness in her final year, Kim remained a steadfast source of support for Jenna and Kat. Her courage during this time was nothing short of extraordinary—she continued to uplift those around her with grace and determination.
A private memorial service will be held to honor Kim’s life and legacy.
