He married the love of his life Barbara Hunt, who he affectionately called St. Barb, because in his eyes she was perfect and did no wrong. Lou and Barbara shared their common love for reading and researching as well as traveling where he loved catching beautiful photography.
He was very proud of his education; he had two masters from ISU. He received a master's in sociology in 1972 and a master's in psychology in 1975. He spent most of his career operating his own private practice.
Lynn leaves to cherish his memory; sisters; Rochelle (Steve) Hockensmith, Sheila (Barrie) Sale, two nieces (Jamie and Brooke), and Gordon (Kathy) Lazerson, 3 nephews (Scott, Brent, Eric & families). Coach Lou will be missed by all that knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his very kind heart by the poem Pennies.
"We all are shiny pennies. Pennies are the smallest denomination of currency in the U.S., and their value is often mistaken as unimportant. While a penny may not buy much, its meaning can fill your heart. The metaphor of a penny reminds us of people or chances in life that are easily overlooked but are precious when you take the time to appreciate them."
Lou was our shiny penny. Even to the very end, he was offering new theories, searching for another book to study, always learning — not for himself alone, but for the friends and family he loved.
Thank you for all the caregivers that made it possible for him to remain in his home, as well as Goldwater nursing home. Lou enjoyed carrying on conversations, his counseling as well as all the activities the home had to offer.
Thank you, Coach, for the honor of knowing you.
No funeral service will be held at Lou’s request.
Services entrusted to East Lawn Funeral Home 1102 Airport Rd, Bloomington, IL 61701.
