Dear Aunt Jean and Cousins,

It is with deep sorrow to hear about Uncle Dwayne. I remember him always with a big smile and he was always teasing us kids.  It was such fun at Christmas and the summer reunions at Grandma Lena's. His picture certainly has that Kinsell look, doesn't it. I notice his first name was M? Please accept my sincerest condolences.

I only knew Mr. Kinsell, and his family, for a very short time. Six days to be exact. Dwayne and I shared a hospital room - November 23 - 28, of this year. We became "roomies! Thanksgiving Day Holiday Buddies.

During this time, close family members filtered in and out of our room on a daily basis. Soon, I was engaged in day to day conversations with them and it was just as if they were visiting me as well. Being from Anchor, where I live with my girlfriend Cindy Bose, and the Kinsell's from Saybrook - I made the joke that the hospital must have put roommates together based on home location. Even one of our very good nurses, Connie, lives in Colfax. What a small World.

The most significant memory that I have of Dwayne, took place in one our overnight's after all our visitors left for the evening. A late night conversation woke me up. I overheard Dwayne carrying on a full conversation, with...........himself. Complete with questions and answers. I had to get up out of bed to see if someone else was there with him in our room. No one - just Dwayne. When I mentioned this to Norma Jean and family, the next day, we all had a good laugh. We agreed that the next night I should keep a pen and paper handy, just in case he got to talking about any family secrets. Norma Jean told me that she wasn't worried about any secrets. She said that after almost 65 years of marriage, she knows everything there is to know about Dwayne.
It is amazing how people can impact your life, even during a short time. Like the one I had with Dwayne and his family. I actually felt like I had been a long time friend, even after just six days. It makes me think that I would have loved to have been involved in and become friends with the Dwayne, and the Kinsell's longer that our one week of November 2010.
If I were to sum up my impression of Dwayne in two words, it would only be fitting to say, "A Character".
 
I will miss my "roomie".
