Marjorie E. Peifer, 91, of Bloomington passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal. She was born August 5, 1932 in Bloomington, IL, to Abraham and Blanche (Meredith) Brown. She graduated from Normal Community High School and married the love of her life, James Peifer on October 17, 1950.
Marjorie was an active woman throughout her life. She wore many hats during her time with different area businesses, working for many years at Parkview Grocery, Stried's Restaurant, Ventura's Restaurant, Niepagen's Nursery, at different times to supplement her family’s income. Marjorie retired from the Eureka Company after twenty-seven years of being in area “W” and assembling bomb parts for the Vietnam War, as well as assembling Mighty Might sweepers. She drove to the Veterans Hospital in Danville every weekend during her husbands’ ten year stay there to provide care for him. She was not only mother and father, but also provider for so many years to her children.
When Marjorie wasn’t helping hold the family together, she enjoyed fishing, spending time with her chihuahua, Tassie, gardening, doting on her koi fish pond, and mowing her own grass in her riding lawn mower (which she did on her own until she was 89 years old). Marjorie also spent all her weekends camping, spoiling her grandchildren, and cooking everyone Sunday lunch. She was known for working out at Gold's Gym and YMCA for seven days a week and was very fit. She had lots of friends at both facilities. Some of her friends remember the times spent with the Rusty Hinges group at Goodfield’s “The Barn” theater.
Surviving are her children, Avis (Garrie) Atkins, George Peifer; grandchildren, Mysty Vaughn, Sarah Peifer, Dana Peifer; step-grandchildren, Rayeann Mayer, Jim McCormick, Mitch McCormick; great-grandchildren, Aidan Vaughn, Liam Vaughn; and siblings, Jimmy Brown and Abraham Brown Jr.
She is preceded in passing by her loving spouse of twenty-five years, James; parents, Abraham and Blanche; step-children, Margie, William “Bill”; and siblings, Virginia, Marilyn, Edward, Oscar, and William.
A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow services at East Lawn Memorial Gardens.
The family wishes a special thank you to Marjorie Ahlers, Marjorie’s lifelong friend. A special thank you also goes out to all of the staff at McLean County Nursing Home and Transitions Hospice for their love and care of Marjorie.
