Born on August 6, 1941, in Bloomington, Illinois, Mary Alice was the daughter of John and Clara (Ames) McNamara. She remained connected to her hometown throughout her life, cultivating a love for history that would shape her personal and professional pursuits.
Mary Alice earned a master's degree in history from Illinois State University, a reflection of her lifelong passion for learning and preserving the past. Her dedication to historical preservation extended beyond the classroom - she began volunteering for the McLean County Historical Society in 1997, where she contributed her time and knowledge to honoring local heritage. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), further demonstrating her commitment to civic engagement and historical remembrance.
Mary Alice will be remembered by those who knew her as a caring individual and a loyal friend. She found great joy in traveling with her daughter and friends, creating cherished memories through shared experiences and exploration.
She is survived by her daughter Cynthia (Michael) Crimmins; her grandchildren, Claire and John Crimmins; and nieces, Kim Cochran, Kristi Locke and preceded in death by niece Kelly Cochran. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A private family service will be held to honor Mary Alice's life.
